Dread Shrines
A downloadable curse
Hail, Faireblood of Karg-Untief!
Eternal. Cursed. Unforgiving.
DREAD SHRINES is a solo journaling, pen-and-paper, roguelike dungeon crawler inspired by games like Pelle Nilsson's DARK FORT, FromSoft's Dark Souls, ChAIR Entertainment's Infinity Blade, among others.
This curse is available both in digital friendly formats as well as print-at-home PDFs (premium physical copies available on the Yggdrasil Item Shop)
Delve inside six unique DREAD SHRINES, foul dens hosting decay, forgotten truths, and inescapable doom. Burn them to ash, or be consumed by the curse they guard.
Again THEY bleed. Again THEY rise.
As the Faireblood scion of Karg-Untief, you inherit:
- A Cursed Journal: It's whispering promises endlessly echoing of both glory and demise.
- Six Dungeons to BURN: From the venomous Viper’s Pit to the temporal labyrinth of the Prophet’s Mausoleum.
- Various Instruments of Ruin: Magick relics, vials of elixir and tincture, and weapons that remember ancestral bloodshed.
- An Oath Written in Blood: Fail, and your next of kin inherits your quest. Die, and your corpse fuels the curse.
The rogue-king’s Throne awaits those strong enough to break the cycle... or perpetuate it.
Venture. Record. Plunder. DIE!
Inside the pages of the Cursed Journal you'll find:
- A Simple Roll and Journal Based Delve: D4, D6 and D8 rolls uniquely shape each playthrough (with weapons dealing up to D12 points of DMG)! Map shrines, record boons, and inscribe your demise in soul-staining ink.
- Generational Tragedy: Your progress echoes through your heirs. Items collected and DREAD SHRINES burned (but never your silver, vials, or hard-won respite) shape the fate of those who follow.
- Philosophical Gloom: Confront themes of inescapable legacy, the weight of inherited sin, and the futility of glory in a world rotting from within.
- Multiple Ends to Experience and Find: Several "BAD" ones, a few "NORMAL" ones, not enough "GOOD?" ones... and perhaps even a "TRUE" one.
The PAGE fuels FLAMES. And BLOOD the QUILL.
If you seek:
- A solo RPG where hope curdles like old blood...
- The weight of generational failure sharpened into a dagger...
- A dungeon crawler that mirrors the suffocating grasp of destiny...
- The cursed allure of objects imbued with secret dark magicks...
...ALL DREAD SHRINES PATIENTLY AWAITS.

hey there, just wondering if any community copies will be available soon
Many thanks
Am I looking at this wrong, or does the A5 version of the print at home have a lot more Player Journals? I printed the A6 version to get a cleaner rulebook, but were the extra Player Journals in the A5 version intentional? Looking forward to playing this either way.
Also, I'm trying to avoid spoilers on shrines by not reading into them until I get to them, but I'm curious if there's a way in-game/zine to decode the tablet at the front and back of the zine? I assume that has something to do with the true ending?
Hello! There isn't an A6 version for download, there is one however available as a physical item in the Yggdrasil Item Shop. There might be a couple more player journals in the booklet version to facilitate printing, I can't really recall.
Ah, my bad, I meant A5 and A4, though I see I also somehow didn't notice the A4 version does have the same amount as A5. Sorry about that.
I started playing it, and I'm enjoying the game! I like some of the changes from Dark Fort (such as starting with elixirs, and using a D8 rather than a D6 for several rolls). I did have a question regarding Leveling Boon #4 though. It says "all vials have their uses doubled". Does this mean that each individual vial can be used twice before being consumed, or does it mean my maximum amount of carryable vials is doubled? Since at the beginning of the game we get d2+1, am I right in assuming at any given time we can carry a max of 3 vials (of each kind)? So leveling would mean I can now carry 6?
You can use each twice
How many pages is this?
Hello! The game and instructions are around 10 A5 pages. Art, player journal and memorial pages are not included in this count, but account for the rest of the booklet's content.
hi there
Just wondering if anymore community copies community copies are available
Thank you
Hey there! Sorry no community copies have been unlocked yet, but we're very close to launching the physical edition of Dread Shrines, so some may come soon!
This is fantastic, Chupa!
